Sir David Frost
"Is the new Elton John going to come from India? For a new force is arriving on the music scene with many predicting a big future for him."
Experience the sheer magnitude of Reflection | प्यार तू था, ना भी था by Shayan Italia, the largest audio production of a Hindi song ever, featuring 150 legendary international musicians, including some of whom are: The London Philharmonic and London Telefilmonic Orchestras, Guthrie Govan, Ralph Salmins, Luis Jardim, Shan Chana, Levine Andrade, Mike-Ross Trevor, Tim Young, Mazen Murad, Ian Laws, Richard Cottle and more…
Running 7 minutes and 47 seconds, the Hindi magnum opus REFLECTION | प्यार तू था, ना भी था by Shayan defies the traditional pop song format of modern times and showcases one of the largest musical canvases ever created for a Hindi song, entirely recorded, mixed, and mastered on GP9 analogue tape.
Keeping it real and raw with all the tape noise, cracks, pops, and imperfections- without any vocal tuning or digital gimmicks- REFLECTION | प्यार तू था, ना भी था represents creative expression through unadulterated 100% performance. This song ignites the auditory senses, transporting you to another world with just one listen. It features one of the most iconic opening sequences in Hindi music and a cinematic farewell outro that honors some of the greatest musicians featured on iconic records. With a performance that spans four octaves, Shayan’s captivating vocals, coupled with his grand piano playing, breathe fire into the epic composition that masterfully builds layer upon layer from start to finish.
“The music we listen to is personal; it defines us. You can understand someone deeply through the music they love, as it is a two-faced reflection of their heart’s innermost desires.” - Shayan
“I am here to honor my Mum through music for the gift she bestowed upon me. There is a profound, celestial connection I feel with music when I sit at the piano to write or play one of my songs. It is this positive wave of energy that inspired project REFLECTION, serving as a vehicle for others to connect with music on a deeply personal level and reflect inwardly as well.” - Shayan
Shayan Italia was born into a ZoroastrianParsi family in Hyderabad, India. When he was just a boy, Shayan lost both his parents within a year of each other- his Mum to Multiple Myeloma (Cancer of The Bone Marrow) and his Dad to Multiple Sclerosis.
Before passing away, his mother asked his father to buy him a piano. She never lived to see him play it. Shayan wrote his first song on that piano and has been prolifically writing since. REFLECTION | प्यार तू था, ना भी था marks his debut song release.
Shayan attended the Doon School to pursue his studies, following in the footsteps of his father, brother, and uncle. He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in International Trade Practices, a Bachelor’s Degree in Sound Engineering and Music Production, and a Master’s Degree in Business Management.
Shayan Italia hails from a Zoroastrian Parsi family that is deeply pro-India, embracing its diversity, culture, and growth. Shayan’s mother was an avid reader, averaging almost a book a day throughout her life. Her philosophy was, “The more you read, the more you grow. It’s that simple.” His father earned a PhD in Engineering from the University of Birmingham. His elder brother Dynshaw Italia, is a two-time global award-winning Chartered Accountant. His uncle, Lieutenant General Faridoon 'Billy' Billimoria, held the rank of four-star general in the Indian Army. His first cousin is Lord Karan Bilimoria. His uncle, Ratan J Batliboi, is a revered architect.
"I count myself among the misfits, the outcasts, the rebels, the unconventional ones- those who feel they don't belong. I have never been accepted as one of any or one of many.
I have struggled and fought against my inner demons - those that have consistently shown me to be different, awkward, undisciplined, childish, trivial, troublesome, and frivolous. Yet, I have learned to love myself in the skin I wear. I stand apart musically, lyrically, emotionally, and socially. I have understood myself the hard way; I must swim upstream when everyone is flowing downstream.
It all stems from what she told me: never be afraid to be different; never be afraid to not fit in; you are my son, and you are who you are for a reason."
